World of Children is an international non-profit organization that works to improve the lives of children from disadvantaged backgrounds, protect them from abuse and provide them with healthcare and education.

As part of its efforts to improve the lives of children, World of Children provides statistics and acts on child hunger on its website. Child hunger has many adverse effects on children, including malnutrition. Malnutrition is of two types.

-Stunting. It occurs when a child does not receive adequate nutrition in the womb and early childhood. As a result, children who have this type of malnutrition never attain their full possible height and experience regression in cognitive development.

-Wasting. This occurs due to a severe lack of nutrients which weakens a child’s immune system and exposes them to illnesses that likely cause death. Wasting results in severe weight loss or difficulty in gaining weight.
